Writing Prompt Challenge
Ready to Collab?
Do you have story ideas? Have you written posts that start with “Write me a story about…” that went nowhere? Bring them here!
Click on “Submit Your Prompt” to be redirected to a Google submission form. Once submitted, your prompt, your pen name (this name will be public), and your email will be added to the Prompt Pool. When the pool is large enough, everyone will get a chance to vote for their favorite. The prompt with the most votes will be expanded into a writing project. The prompt, with pen name, will be credited at the top of the finished piece as the inspiration, just before the author’s name.
IMPORTANT: All credit for the prompt you write will belong only to you, and all credit for the piece written using the prompt will belong only to the author of the piece.
Below are a few suggestions in case your mind just went blank. Feel free to use an option from one or more categories as inspiration, or just wing it. Don’t forget to add your pen name for credit.
Write me a…
vignette • flash fiction story • poem • freewriting passage
About…
describe the main character • describe the main character and the antagonist • describe the main character, the antagonist, and a secondary character
Whose goal is…
to destroy or create something • to avenge or rescue someone • to solve a mystery or crime • to go adventuring or return home • to meet someone new or estranged • to kill or to die
At/on/during…
describe a place or culture • describe a time period • describe an event • describe a sensory experience • describe a mood or feeling
And will face/discover/reveal…
an impossible choice or obstacle • a secret crush or affair • an exceptional talent or othering limitation • a photo, letter, or personal object • a phobia or trauma
(If it’s a big hit, I’ll post regular polls so that more prompts can be converted into stories. We’ll see how the first one goes…)

Very interesting idea! Amazing how the mind goes blank after trying to think of something that didn't go anywhere before (i.e., most of what I've started writing is in the half-baked slush pile!).
